Val Valdez – November 30

World War II army veteran and prisoner of war Val Valdez stands in front of a box of medals and momentos at his home earlier this week. Valdez, 92, attempted to escape and was caught three times by the German forces during 14 months of imprisonment during World War II. While imprisoned Valdez witnessed first hand the holocaust and gave starving Jewish children his one slice a day ration of bread. Val and his wife Loyola recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
